Why is Ascendant important in Vedic Astrology?
Ascendant is the sign at the eastern horizon on the day of individual's birth at a given geographical location. It defines an individual's self and character. The ascendant is the key to define 12 Vedic houses called "Bhavas".
To prepare a Vedic birth chart we begin with the zodiac sign of the Ascendant and assign house numbers from 1 through 12. Each house is called "Bhava" in Vedic astrology and represent specific aspects of life such as health, wealth, career, relationships and so on. Bhavas also represent body parts they govern.
